Building Codes

 

The City of Reedley has adopted the following International Conference of Building Officials, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, National Fire Protection Association Codes:

 

1994 Uniform Building Code, Volume 1

(The Uniform Building Codes has been divided into a three-volume set. Volume-1 accommodates administrative, fire- and life-safety and field inspection provisions.)

 

The purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures within this jurisdiction and certain equipment specifically herein.

 

1994 Uniform Housing Code

The purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all residential buildings and structures within this jurisdiction.

 

The provisions of this code shall apply to all buildings or portions used, or designed or intended to be used, for human habitation. Such occupancies in existing buildings may be continued as provided in Section 3401 of the Building Code, except such structures as are found to be substandard as defined in this code.

 

Where any building or portion thereof is used or intended to be used as a combination apartment, house-hotel, the provisions of this code shall apply to the separate portions as if they were separate buildings.

 

Rooming houses, congregate residences or lodging houses shall comply with all the requirements of this code for dwellings.

 

1994 Uniform Code for Abatement of Dangerous Buildings

The purpose of this code is to provide a just, equitable and practicable method, to be cumulative with and in addition to any other remedy provided by the Building Code, Housing Code or otherwise available by law, where by buildings or structures which from any cause endanger the life, limb, health, morals, property safety or welfare of the general public or their occupants may be required to be repaired, vacated or demolished.

 

The provision of this code shall apply to all dangerous buildings, as herein defined, which are now in existence or which may hereafter become dangerous in this jurisdiction.


1994 Uniform Plumbing Code

This Code is an ordinance providing minimum requirements and standards for the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.

 

The provisions of this Code shall apply to the erection, installation, alteration, repair, relocation, replacement, addition to, use or maintenance of plumbing systems within this jurisdiction.


1994 Uniform Mechanical Code

The purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation and maintenance or use of heating, ventilating, cooling, refrigeration systems, incinerators and other miscellaneous heat-producing appliances within this jurisdiction.


1994 Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code

This Code is an ordinance providing minimum requirements and standards for the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.

 

The provisions of this Code shall apply to the erection, installation, alteration, repair, relocation, replacement, addition to, maintenance or use of any swimming pool, spa, or hot tub plumbing systems except as otherwise provided for in this Code.


1993 National Electrical Code

The purpose of this Code is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity.

 

This code covers:

  • Installation of electric conductors and equipment within or on public and private buildings or other structures, including mobile homes, recreational vehicles and floating buildings; and other premises such as yards, carnivals, parking, and other lots, and industrial substations.
  • Installation of conductors and equipment that connect to the supply of electricity.
  • Installation of other outside conductors and equipment on the premises.
  • Installation of optical fiber cable.


1997 Uniform Code For Building Conservation

The purpose of this code is to encourage the continued use or reuse of legally existing buildings and structures.

 

The provisions of this code shall constitute the minimum standards for change of occupancy, alterations or repair of existing buildings and structures.
