We would like to express our grateful and heartfelt
appreciation to all of the senior services volunteers.
It is through their dedication, commitment, and hard
work that the City of Reedley can provide year around
services and programs for the seniors of Reedley. Over
100 volunteers work on a daily, weekly, monthly and
yearly basis to help carry out our services and programs.
Our volunteers range in age from 55 to 95 years young
and their energies are a marvel.

Heart Beat A Coronary Risk Evaluation
Heartbeat is a community health service program that
will be offered again for those individuals who want
to check their risk for coronary artery disease. The
blood draw and medical history is done at the Community
Center in February from 6:30 to 8:30. Services will
be done though appointment only. There is no age restriction
for this program. A 12-hour fast is necessary before
the blood drawing - no food or beverage other than water
should be taken after 7:00 p.m. the night before your
appointment. The PSA test is for the early detection
of cancer of the prostate in men. An evaluation of these
tests is done in March. The fees charged cover only
the cost of the tests.
Reduced Fee Fishing License
The Senior Services Office has Reduced-Fee Licenses
available. You must meet one of the following restrictions.
- Be 65 years or older and receiving SSI. You must
submit verification from Social Security or a copy
of last year's reduced-fee license.
- Be an honorably discharged veteran with a service
connected disability of 70% or more. Proof must be
received from Veteran's Administration or a copy of
last year's reduced-fee license.
- Be 65 years or older, and a resident of California
with a total income of less than $712 for a single
person or $1265 for a couple. You must submit income
verification from Social Security or a copy of last
year's reduced-fee license.
Holiday Craft Festival
The Commission on Aging and Senior Citizens Craft Class
is holding its annual Holiday Craft Festival. All items
are home-made crafts and there will be door prizes and
food booths.

Fiesta Royal Court Luncheon
Sponsored by the Commission
on Aging. You are invited to join many former Reedley
Fiesta Kings, Queens and Parade Marshals for the 13th
Annual Royal Court Luncheon at the Reedley Community
Center held in October.
Diaper Derby
Sponsored by the Reedley Commission
on Aging and Sierra View Homes. Infants ages 6 to
12 months old who are not yet walking are encouraged
to participate in crawling races. Prizes will be awarded
for first, second and third places in each event.

Senior Gold Passes Summer Games
If you are a proud grandparent, uncle, aunt or good
neighbor of a student attending Reedley High School,
and wish to see this year's sporting events and other
special activities --- have we got a deal for you! The
Reedley Senior Services office has a great supply of
Senior Gold Passes for Reedley High School's activities
and sporting events. Please feel free to call or drop
by the office to pick up your pass. You must be a senior
to qualify. Passes are also issued at the Reedley High
School Main Office. Please note that the sporting events
are free with the pass, however, the admission cost
for theatrical plays and concerts may only be discounted.
You must call the school for the events and any possible
event charge. A great deal for a fun time!
Domineers
The Domineers is a group that plays dominoes every
Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the
Sonora Room at the Reedley Community Center. The group
plays with "double nines". If you play dominoes
or would like to learn how to play dominoes, this is
the group for you!
Homebound Meals
If you are limited in your mobility and have no other
local support for meals, you may be eligible for frozen
meals to be delivered to your home once a week. This
program is very limited in its number of participants.

meals and this program is partially funded by the Fresno-Madera
Area Agency on Aging.
Hot Meals
Meals taste so much better when you can share them
in the company of others! Join us in the Phil M. Hudson
Senior Room at the Reedley Community Center every weekday
(except holidays) at 11:00 a.m. for a nutritious hot
lunch and fun company. Reservations must be made by
11:15 the day before you plan to attend. This program
is partially funded by the Fresno-Madera Area Agency

Movie Matinee
On every Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., a free
movie matinee is shown in the Phil M. Hudson Senior
Room at the Reedley Community Center. Refreshments are
served and popular classics as well as recent releases
are shown. Plan to join us and enjoy an entertaining
afternoon.
Senior Craft Class
The members of the Senior Craft Class are taught various
types of handcrafts. The class meets at the Reedley
Community Center on Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Join the class for a fun and educational experience.
Senior Exercise
The Senior Exercise Class is sponsored by the Kings
River Community College and the Reedley Community Services
Department. The class is geared to improve the circulation
and muscle tone of seniors and is held in the California
Room at the Reedley Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Come early
at 9:30 and join the walkers. A fee for the class is
charged each semester by the college.
Senior Potluck Luncheon
Join us on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12:00
noon for the Senior Potluck Luncheon. Bring your table
service, one dish to share, and a hearty appetite. We
meet in the California Room at the Reedley Community
Center. Every month a different type of entertainment
is scheduled and a great time is shared by one and all!
Bridge
If you enjoy playing bridge, come to the Phil M. Hudson
Senior Room in the Reedley Community Center on Tuesday
from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and join us for a fun time and
good companionship.
HICAP
Do you have questions about supplemental health insurance?
Are you confused about choosing between Medicare and
an HMO? A HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy
Program) volunteer may be able to assist you. This program
is designed to assist seniors with filing claims, understanding
coverage's, and fighting denials of claims by both Medicare
and any HMO. Call the HICAP central office at (559)
447-4870 to set up an appointment.
Information and Assistance
Finding services to meet the needs of seniors and their
families can be very challenging. The Reedley Senior
Services Office would like to help. Call our office
at (559) 637-4207 and the staff will provide information
and assistance to seniors and their families within
the Reedley area.
Reedley Senior Gleaners
Fresh fruits and vegetables are distributed to seniors
every Wednesda by the volunteer Senior Gleaners. Distribution
is done on the patio at the Reedley Community Center
from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Donations are welcomed
and new senior "gleaners" are too!
AARP 55 Alive Mature Drivers
The Senior Services Office and the American Association
of Retired Persons (AARP) offers the 55 Alive Mature
Drivers Class in the Phil M. Hudson Senior Room. The
eight hour course is held over two days and AARP charges
$10.00 for the class. Completion of the class allows
a senior a percentage reduction in their auto insurance.

Senior Home Owner's & Renter's Assistance
The Senior Services Office offers limited services
assisting anyone who is 62 years old or older, blind
or disabled in completing their California Homeowner's
or Renter's Assistance claims. To file a claim, your
adjusted income must not exceed a certain maximum amount.
The senior claims will be filed from July to October.

Reedley Senior News
A monthly newsletter is published by the Senior Services
Office and the Reedley Commission on Aging. If you are
a senior and wish to receive the newsletter, please

Preventative Health for 55 & Over
The Fresno County Health Department and the Senior
Services Office offers this Health Checkup for anyone
55 years old and older. There are no income restrictions
for this free community service. A full series of health
testing and examinations will be conducted. The screening
service is done every other month. Please call us at
(559) 637-4207 for the next date.
Legal Services
The Central California Legal Services holds office
hours in the Phil M. Hudson Senior Room at the Reedley
Community Center on the second Tuesday of every month.
This organization provides legal assistance in civil
matters. Call (559) 637-4207 for an appointment.
Senior Blood Pressure Testing
Senior citizens may have their blood pressure and weight
checked by volunteers on the first Wednesday of every
month from 8:50 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. This free service
is provided for seniors in the Sierra Room at the Reedley
Community Center.
Senior Hearing Testing
Free hearing testing services are offered in the Phil
M. Hudson Senior Room on a bi-monthly basis. This service
is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and no appointment
is necessary. Please bring your hearing aid, if you
wear one, on testing day. Because the testing service
is done quarterly, you will need to call us at (559)
637-4207 for the next available date.
Social Services
Representatives from the California State Department
of Social Services are available at the Community Center
every Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on every
Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Social Security
Representatives from the U.S. Social Security Department
are available at the Community Center the third Wednesday
of each month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Senior Tax Services
The Reedley Senior Services office and the American
Association of Retired Persons (AARP) offer free tax
services for anyone 60 years old and older. Senior tax
services will be available on Mondays from 9:00 am to
3:00 pm starting in February and ending in April. Call
for an appointment.
Equipment Loan Service
The Senior Services Office has a small loan equipment
service. This service is for any senior who may need
to borrow, for a short time, wheelchairs, canes, new
portable potty chairs, and/or a set of crutches. We
also have a limited quantity of home care supplies such
as disposable undergarment pads for any senior.
Pool Table
The Reedley Senior Services Office now has a pool table
for seniors to play. The pool table hours are Monday
through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Monday and
Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. through 12:45 p.m.. If you
are interested in playing in a pool tournament, please
give us a call!
Senior Get-A-Ways
Come and be an active part of our Senior Center. We
don't just sit and gather dust! Several times a year
we are busy Getting A-Way. Here are some examples: Blossom
Trail, New Wrinkles, Coast trip, Christmas Pageant,
Metropolitan Museum, Casinos, Mystery Tour, and more
surprises coming.
Computer Class
Do you have a computer but are afraid of it? Would
you like to learn how to use it? We have a few computers
for seniors to use and learn on. If you are interested
in joining our computer class, please call for more
information.
