Police Department - Public Information → Traffic Safety
The Reedley Police Department is committed to the safety of its driving public. The City of Reedley has received two grants from the Office of Traffic Safety over that past several years to assist us in the implementation of a Multi-Agency Safe Street Project.
In 1997 the City of Reedley requested a Grant from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety to purchase a radar trailer and 5 mobile radar's. The radar trailer is a educational device to place on streets where speed is a primary reason for collisions. It allows drivers to see what their speed is compared to the posted speed limit. In many instances drivers just do not pay attention to their speed. The mobile radar units allowed the police department to begin actively enforcing speed violation from a fixed location in those high problem areas.
In 2000 the police department applied for another grant from the Office of Traffic Safety to add a Motorcycle Officer as part of a multi-agency Safe Streets Alliance Project. This program supplemented our existing enforcement efforts and allowed us to work with other agencies in the area that were also committed to having safe streets for their children to walk to school and make the streets safer for the motoring public.
Our Traffic Sergeant Todd Lowery has also been committed to a regular program of educating our public in traffic safety. Sgt. Lowery provides an article a week to the local paper that provides important information on traffic safety matters. Each article has a link to the left. Click on each link to read the articles. These will be updated weekly.
